My wife and I just watched “Summer of 69” and loved it. It’s funny and cringey in the best way, and captures that mix of insecurity and overconfidence in teenage years that we can all relate to. It made this list (keep reading to find out where it landed), and it also put me in the mood for other funny, female coming-of-age stories worth checking out. If you’re into movies that explore this messy, awkward, and chaotic time in life (that are also super relatable), these are seven of the best female teen movies you can stream right now.
Top 7 female coming-of-age comedies on streaming right now.
No. 7: ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ (2018) | Netflix
I love a great rom-com, especially when it feels fresh, and “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” really nails that. It takes a classic setup — girl’s secret love letters get sent out — and spins it into something charming, sweet, and powerful. Lana Condor is great as Lara Jean, who’s kind of an introvert just trying to avoid total social humiliation (relatable).
And yeah, there’s the fake dating trope, but it actually works here because the characters feel honest and grounded. This one’s less about wild party scenes or raunchy chaos, and more about quiet teenage panic, first crushes, and finding your voice. A softer entry on this list, but a solid one.

Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control when her secret letters to every boy she’s ever fallen for are mysteriously mailed out.
No. 6: ‘You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah’ (2023) | Netflix
Okay, so I have almost nothing in common with the lead of “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah” — a middle school girl prepping for her Bat Mitzvah — but I was totally into this one. And honestly, that’s the magic of a great movie, right? Getting emotionally invested in someone whose world looks nothing like yours… because the feelings underneath it all — jealousy, friendship drama, wanting to feel seen — are universal.
Movie-rant aside, this one’s funny, weird, and a little unhinged in the best way. Sunny Sandler is hilarious and awkward in that perfect teenage way, and the whole story sneaks up on you. By the end, it really got me — because it’s not just about growing up, it’s about doing right by your friends. Definitely worth a watch.

Stacy and Lydia are BFFs who’ve always dreamed about having epic bat mitzvahs. But things start to go comically awry when a popular boy and middle school drama threatens their friendship and their rite of passage.
No. 5: ‘Blockers’ (2018) | Rent with Prime Video
“Blockers” flips the typical teen sex comedy on its head — this time, it’s the parents freaking out. When three high school girls make a pact to lose their virginity on prom night, their overprotective parents (played by Leslie Mann, John Cena, and Ike Barinholtz) go into full panic mode and try to shut it down.
What I like about this one is that while it’s got the raunchy jokes and wild party scenes you’d expect, it’s also really sweet. The girls are smart and in control, and the story doesn’t shame them for wanting to explore their own sexuality — it actually sides with them. It’s messy, hilarious, and even kind of touching. And yeah, John Cena butt-chugging beer is now permanently burned into my brain.

When three parents discover that each of their daughters have a pact to lose their virginity at prom, they launch a covert one-night operation to stop the teens from sealing the deal.
No. 4: ‘Prom Dates’ (2024) | Hulu
“Prom Dates” is a wild comedy about two best friends who’ve been planning their perfect prom night since middle school — only for everything to go completely off the rails in the final 24 hours. It’s got big teen energy: breakups, makeovers, bad decisions, and a whole lot of chaos.
But underneath the mess is a really sweet story about friendship and figuring out who you are when life doesn’t go according to plan. Antonia Gentry and Julia Lester are hilarious together, and the whole thing moves fast with one ridiculous scenario after another. It’s totally unhinged in the best way, and if you’re into stories where the night spirals but the friendship holds, this one’s worth your time.

No. 3: ‘Lady Bird’ (2017) | Max
It was “Barbie” that made Greta Gerwig a household name, but it was the sheer quality of “Lady Bird” that gave her that opportunity in the first place. This movie is sharp, funny, and brutally honest about that weird in-between space of being a teenager who wants more but doesn’t quite know what “more” looks like.
Saoirse Ronan absolutely crushes it as Lady Bird — a restless high school senior who’s equal parts confident and insecure, rebellious and needy. The real heart of the movie is her complicated relationship with her mom (played by Laurie Metcalf), which swings between love and total exasperation. It’s a coming-of-age story that doesn’t rely on big twists or loud moments — it just gets it.

No. 2: ‘Booksmart’ (2019) | Rent with Prime Video
I love any movie where the whole premise is “we need to party harder,” and “Booksmart” delivers that in the best way. Two high school overachievers realize on the eve of graduation that they spent too much time studying and not enough time living — so they cram four years of missed fun into one night. I was in the second when I heard the setup.
Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever have unreal chemistry, and every scene is either laugh-out-loud funny or sneakily emotional. It’s tight, sharp, and underneath all the chaos, it’s really about friendship — the kind that shapes you, stretches you, and sometimes holds up a mirror when you least want it.

Two academic teenage superstars realize, on the eve of their high school graduation, that they should have worked less and played more. Determined to never fall short of their peers, the girls set out on a mission to cram four years of fun into one night.
No. 1: ‘Summer of 69’ (2025) | Hulu
Topping the list is “Summer of 69,” which on the surface is about a teenage girl hiring a stripper to teach her about a sex position. Yep, that’s the premise. But beneath the ridiculous setup is something way more grounded: a girl figuring out what she actually wants, and realizing that she gets to define when she’s ready — and what she’s ready for.
Sam Morelos is funny and awkward in all the right ways as Abby, and Chloe Fineman absolutely steals every scene as Santa Monica, the kind of mean, wildly unfiltered stripper with a surprisingly big heart. This is also a really strong directorial debut from Jillian Bell, who somehow makes a movie this wild feel honest, weirdly sweet, and totally worth your time.
